An Artist residency in the Observatory Studio. Awarded for the degree works in BA (Hons) Architecture - 1st Class Honours - (Winner) of Terrance O'Rourke Design Award
The sculptural forms of SPUD’s Observatory sits upon a towering cliff located between the villages of Burton Bradstock and West Bay, Dorset.
The graduate residency was undertaken in the secluded rural location that provided a unique and inspirational surrounding from which to carry out a research portfolio on characteristics and attributes of Dorset’s rural environment.
Marlow Parker - Arts University Bournemouth - Residency at Burton Bradstock
The project provided an opportunity to rest, research and re-cooperate after the completion of BA (Hons) Architecture at the Arts University Bournemouth. Removing oneself from the hustle of an urban environment and the chaos of university culture shifted existing perspectives around activities regarding architecture, design and living.
Working at a desk through the three years of study provided a consistency from which to learn, enhance and refine various design skills. However, undertaking the residency in a low paced rural setting, shifted existing thoughts around what is important, relevant and most of all enjoyable within contemporary design.
